Chance of a live birth over several cycles
How we got this estimate
Things that may help
Educational estimate only. This is not medical advice or a prediction. Real results depend on your clinic, your protocol and many factors not measured here. Please discuss your own outlook with a fertility specialist.
Frequently asked questions
What does “per cycle” mean here?
It is the estimated chance that one started IVF cycle (egg stimulation and retrieval, followed by embryo transfers from that retrieval) ends in a live birth. It is not the same as the chance for a single embryo transfer.
Why does age matter so much?
Egg quantity and quality fall with age, and chromosomal abnormalities in eggs become more common. That is why age is the single biggest factor in IVF success with your own eggs.
Where do the numbers come from?
The baselines are simplified approximations of national registry data from sources such as SART, CDC and HFEA, and the adjustments are rounded rules of thumb. Individual clinics can differ noticeably, so ask your clinic for its own age-specific results.
Why is the chance over several cycles not simply added up?
Each cycle is not fully independent, since the same underlying factors affect every attempt. The estimator therefore assumes each further cycle is slightly less likely to succeed than the first.
