How this is calculated, and its sources
Ovulation anchor. If you enter an ovulation date directly, that’s treated as day 0. If you enter your last period and cycle length instead, ovulation is estimated as LMP + (cycle length − 14), reflecting a typical 12–14 day luteal phase.
Implantation window. Daily hormone studies tracking urinary hCG show implantation is usually detectable 6 to 12 days after ovulation, peaking around days 8–10. The day-by-day percentages shown (2%, 10%, 30%, 34%, 18%, 5%, 1% for days 6–12) are scaled to sum to 100% and follow this same bell-shaped pattern.
Test day. hCG needs roughly 2–3 days after implantation to build up enough to be reliably detected in urine. The calculator marks day 14 after ovulation as a cautious first test day — some people will get an accurate result earlier, others need to wait a little longer, especially if their period is late.

Why the Test Day Matters
Implantation is the trigger that starts hCG production. Even after implantation happens, it typically takes another 2–3 days for hCG to build up enough to be detectable in urine. Testing at 10 or 11 DPO — before implantation may have even occurred, let alone before hCG has risen — is a common source of false negatives that can cause unnecessary worry. Waiting until the marked test day, or the day of a missed period, gives a meaningfully more reliable result.
